Economic Development, Tourism, Sport & Culture

The Department for the Economic Development, Tourism, Sport & Culture works closely with local industry and other agencies across all sectors of Jersey’s economy to support their development and diversification. 

It has also taken on specific responsibility for developing Jersey’s sport, leisure and cultural strategies.

Focus for 2017-2019

  1. Continuing to reform services to improve efficiency
  2. Developing a Cultural, Heritage, Arts and Creative Industries Strategies, including reviewing potential for efficiencies through closer working between the Jersey Arts Centre, Opera House and Jersey Arts Trust
  3. Evaluating provision of sports facilities and the development of a ‘Fit for the Future’ strategy

Savings & New Revenue

By 2016 the Economic Development, Tourism, Sport & Culture Department will have made savings of £1.8 million. The department is now committed to making further recurring savings of £2.7 million between 2017 and 2019 by:

  • Department infrastructure transformation programme leading to the reduction in things like the cost of playing field maintenance
  • Reduction in funding for some directly delivered services
  • Reduction in budgets for some grant funded organisations
